Tiffany & Co. flagship store, Jewelry flagship store on Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, United States.
Tiffany & Co. is a jewelry store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan with ten stories built from granite and limestone. The building shows five large windows along the street front, through which displays can be viewed from outside.
The building opened in 1940 after the company leased the site from First National City Bank in 1939. The move marked a redesign of the retail location at this Fifth Avenue address.
The name refers to founders Charles Lewis Tiffany and John Young, who started the company in 1837. Visitors today see window displays featuring diamonds and jewelry, redesigned eight times yearly and often showing themed arrangements.
The main salesroom is on the first floor and has a ceiling height of about 24 feet (7 meters) with three trusses that keep the space open without columns. Visitors can view the window displays from the street at any time, even when the store is closed.
A bronze statue of Atlas from 1853 stands on the second story of the west facade and holds a clock above the entrance. The figure was moved here from the original location at 550 Broadway and measures about 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall.
