Curtiss-Wright Hangar

The Curtiss-Wright Hangar is a historic airplane storage building at Jim Hamilton Airport in Columbia. Its design features a central arched metal roof section with flat-roofed wings extending on either side of the main structure.

The hangar was built in 1929 as the first structure at Owens Municipal Airport. It played a key role in supporting passenger and mail service operations during the early growth of aviation.

The building served the early aviation era and remains a gathering place for the community today. Visitors can experience how industrial structures from the past now support contemporary social activities.

The hangar is located on the Jim Hamilton Airport grounds and welcomes visitors throughout the day. Inside, you will find a brewery offering food service and spaces designed for gathering with others.

The steel roof structure provides about 20 feet (6 meters) of clear height in the main storage area. This engineering approach demonstrates how aircraft hangars were designed to maximize usable space in the early aviation era.
