Cochecton–Damascus Bridge, Steel bridge across Delaware River between New York and Pennsylvania.
The Cochecton-Damascus Bridge is a steel structure spanning the Delaware River and linking Sullivan County in New York with Wayne County in Pennsylvania. It carries Pennsylvania Route 371 and Sullivan County Route 114, serving as a direct road connection between the two states.
A bridge has crossed at this location since 1819, beginning as a simple wooden structure and later operating as a toll crossing. The present steel bridge was built in 1950 to replace the earlier versions that served the same route.
The bridge represents a critical connection between communities in New York and Pennsylvania, facilitating regular movement of residents between the two states.
The bridge is open to public road traffic and connects both banks of the Delaware River. Keep in mind that this is a working traffic bridge, not a pedestrian pathway.
Recent rehabilitation plans include a 4.9 million dollar investment to address structural repairs while maintaining the bridge's essential interstate function.
