Molino Canyon

Molino Canyon is a canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains featuring steep granite walls cut by a seasonal creek that forms multiple waterfalls as it flows through the rocky terrain. The formation displays dramatic rock faces that plunge deep into southern Arizona's landscape.

The Catalina Highway was constructed along the western edge of the canyon in the early 1900s, opening this remote mountain formation to public access. This road connection significantly transformed how people could reach and explore this part of the Santa Catalinas.

Native American tribes from the region used the canyon's seasonal water sources and natural resources for sustenance before European settlement.

Access is available through Coronado National Forest trails, with parking at Molino Canyon Vista for visitor convenience. The terrain can be challenging, especially when wet or when crossing the seasonal creek.

The area displays a rare ecological transition from Sonoran Desert saguaro cacti at lower elevations to pine forests in its upper regions. This shift in vegetation makes it remarkable for visitors seeking to experience different landscape types on a single hike.
