The construction of Catalina Highway along the western edge of Molino Canyon in the early 20th century opened this natural formation to public access.
Native American tribes from the region used the canyon's seasonal water sources and natural resources for sustenance before European settlement.
Visitors can access the canyon via the Coronado National Forest trails, with parking available at Molino Canyon Vista, one mile south of Molino Basin Campground.
The canyon exhibits a rare ecological transition from Sonoran Desert cacti at lower elevations to pine forests in its upper regions.
