Gastonia High School

Gastonia High School is a five-story red brick building with Tudor Revival architecture, featuring a four-bay projecting frontispiece and covering a substantial plot of land. The structure showcases the distinctive styling typical of school buildings from the early 1900s.

The building was constructed between 1922 and 1924 under architect Hugh Edward White's direction. A major six-bay expansion was added in 1955 to accommodate growing enrollment.

The school is part of the York-Chester Historic District and contains a two-story auditorium that serves as a gathering place for student performances and community events. This auditorium reflects how the building has remained central to local cultural life over the decades.

The campus is easy to access during the day and offers parking for visitors. The best time to visit is outside school hours when the grounds are quieter and architectural details are easier to observe.
