Kewaunee Marshland Walk, Wooden boardwalk trail in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, US.
Kewaunee Marshland Walk is a trail with wooden boardwalk sections that passes through marsh habitat and connects Lake Michigan harbor with surrounding wetlands. The pathway spans approximately 2,430 feet, with the main boardwalk portion extending roughly 980 feet directly over the Kewaunee River.
The trail was constructed in 1993 as a partnership project between the City of Kewaunee and the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program. The initiative aimed to provide public access to the marsh ecosystem and showcase the natural environment to visitors.
The boardwalk brings visitors directly into a wetland habitat where they can observe birds, aquatic plants, and wildlife in their natural setting. This experience creates a connection between people and the local waterscape in a way that feels accessible and immediate.
The trail is easy to locate by heading north on Highway 42 from Kewaunee and following signs to the landing area near the river. Early morning visits offer the best chances for spotting birds and wildlife in the marsh.
The site is a prime location for observing multiple gull species, including large gulls, herring gulls, and rare arctic species that pass through the region. This concentration of gull diversity makes the location special for birdwatchers.
