Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help

Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, Catholic shrine in Champion, Wisconsin, United States.

The shrine is a Catholic place of pilgrimage located northeast of Green Bay, featuring Gothic-style architecture that spreads across two levels connected by interior passages. The upper level contains a chapel dedicated to the apparition, while the lower level serves as an oratory, with additional buildings on the grounds housing a shop and visitor facilities.

A Belgian immigrant named Adele Brise reported encountering the Virgin Mary three times in 1859, who instructed her to teach children about Catholic faith at this location. These reported events led to the construction of a chapel and transformed the site into an important pilgrimage destination for the Catholic community.

The shrine serves as a gathering place where visitors come to pray and express their faith through regular observances and ceremonies. People use the different chapel spaces for personal reflection and communal worship throughout the year.

Visitors can explore the grounds and buildings on an open schedule, with access to the chapels, shop, and café facilities throughout the day. It is helpful to wear comfortable walking shoes and allow time to move between the upper and lower levels and to visit the different areas on the property.

During a devastating fire in the surrounding area in 1871, the wooden chapel remained untouched while properties around it suffered extensive damage. This unexpected survival of the building was interpreted by followers as a sign of the site's spiritual significance.
