Bell House

The Bell House is a two-story wood-frame structure with asymmetrical projecting bays, gables, and porches supported by turned columns with ornamental spindle-work trim. Its exterior walls display multiple types of cut shingles that create varied surface textures.

The house was built in 1895 by J.V. Bell, a businessman who owned one of Jonesboro's earliest bookstores. The Queen Anne architectural style was popular for fine homes during this period in America.

The house shows how successful business owners in Arkansas displayed their wealth and status through the architectural choices they made for their homes.

The house is located on West Cherry Street in a residential neighborhood where you can view its exterior details from the street. Natural daylight best highlights the exterior decorative elements and shingle patterns.

The building is one of the few well-preserved examples of Queen Anne style in this region and earned its historic register status because of its craftsmanship. The variety of shingle work demonstrates the care that builders invested in such details during the late 1800s.
