The Rockefeller Building is a 17-story commercial structure in downtown Cleveland featuring a steel frame and ornate cast-iron details on its facade. The building houses office spaces across its floors and sits at the intersection of Superior Avenue and West 6th Street.

Built between 1903 and 1905 at West 6th and Superior Avenue, the Rockefeller Building was sold in 1920 to Cleveland businessman Josiah Kirby, who renamed it the Kirby Building and altered its facade. The Rockefeller family, angered by the change, bought it back in 1923 and restored the Rockefeller name, which has remained on the West 6th side ever since. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The building displays Chicago School elements with intricate cast-iron ornaments adorning its lower facade. These decorative details reflect how early 1900s commercial design emphasized craftsmanship alongside structural innovation.

The building sits in the downtown area and is easily accessed via the main street intersection. Visitors can best view the ornamental facade from street level where the decorative details are clearly visible.

The Rockefeller name has stood on the West 6th Street side since 1905, apart from 1920 to 1923, when Josiah Kirby bought the skyscraper and renamed it the Kirby Building. The Rockefeller family, angered by the change, bought it back and restored the name in 1923; the lettering has changed little in design since.
