Rockefeller Building

The Rockefeller Building is a 17-story commercial structure in downtown Cleveland featuring a steel frame and ornate cast-iron details on its facade. The building houses office spaces across its floors and sits at the intersection of Superior Avenue and West 6th Street.

Construction began in 1903 on land that previously held a hotel. The building experienced a name change in 1920 before being reacquired and restored to its original designation in 1923.

The building displays Chicago School elements with intricate cast-iron ornaments adorning its lower facade. These decorative details reflect how early 1900s commercial design emphasized craftsmanship alongside structural innovation.

The building sits in the downtown area and is easily accessed via the main street intersection. Visitors can best view the ornamental facade from street level where the decorative details are clearly visible.

The design was created by architects Knox & Elliott who drew inspiration from progressive architectural movements of their era. This influence shaped the building's character and distinguished it from other structures of the same period.
