The Sovereign

The Sovereign is a 48-story residential building on East 58th Street with a sleek glass and steel exterior that rises approximately 450 feet (137 meters). The structure contains private apartments with views of Manhattan, the East River, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Architects Emery Roth & Sons designed this International Style residential tower, which opened in 1973 at 425 East 58th Street. The project emerged during a major growth period for Manhattan when modern high-rises were reshaping the cityscape.

Built during an era when Manhattan needed new residential towers to accommodate growing urban populations, this structure became part of the neighborhood's shift toward high-rise living. Walking through the area today, visitors can observe how this building sits alongside older structures, reflecting decades of urban transformation.

The building sits near First Avenue and is accessible by public transportation in the East Midtown area. Keep in mind this is a private residential complex, so public access to interior spaces may be limited to the lobby or common areas.
