Strecker Memorial Laboratory

Strecker Memorial Laboratory is a research building on Roosevelt Island designed in Romanesque Revival style with tall arched windows across its two stories. The exterior features carefully laid stone masonry, especially in the southern section of the island, displaying detailed craftwork throughout.

The Strecker family's funding in 1892 established the first institution dedicated to pathological and bacteriological research in the country. This founding marked a turning point in American health sciences and influenced research methods nationwide.
