The Dunes Club

The Dunes Club is a private resort situated on Rhode Island's coast near Narragansett, occupying about 28 acres of waterfront land along the bay. The property includes tennis facilities, beach cabanas, dining rooms, and both indoor and outdoor bars.

The original building fell victim to the powerful New England Hurricane of 1938, which swept away most structures on the property. Reconstruction began promptly in 1939, though only the gatehouse from the earlier era was spared.

The club serves as a gathering place where members pursue tennis and socializing against the backdrop of the bay waters. Summer brings children and adults together for coaching sessions and recreational activities.

Access to the grounds is restricted to members and their guests, with professional coaching available at multiple courts. The facility operates regular lessons and training sessions throughout the warm months.

The main building preserves a tea room for small gatherings and a formal dining hall, each with distinct character and purpose. The 1939 reconstruction blended Colonial Revival design with practical updates, creating spaces that reflect both historical continuity and the post-hurricane rebuilding era.
