Narragansett

Narragansett extends along the eastern shore of Pettaquamscutt River to the Atlantic Ocean, covering 14.1 square miles of land and 23.6 square miles of water.

Originally established as a summer destination for wealthy families, Narragansett separated from South Kingstown in 1888 and received its town incorporation status in 1901.

The town population increases from 14,532 to approximately 34,000 during summer months as visitors arrive for beach activities, surfing, and seasonal celebrations.

The Narragansett Community Center provides meal programs and social activities while maintaining regulations that limit student housing to three college residents per unit.

Narragansett features thirteen locations on the National Register of Historic Places, including The Towers and Point Judith Lighthouse along its Atlantic shoreline.
