NEMA Chicago, Residential skyscraper in Central Station, Chicago, United States
NEMA Chicago is a residential tower reaching 273 meters in height at the southern edge of Grant Park in Chicago, containing a total of 800 apartments across 76 floors. The structure consists of nine vertical sections that end at different heights and give the tower its characteristic profile.
The Chicago Plan Commission approved the project in 2015, after which construction began under the direction of architect Rafael Viñoly. Completion took place in 2019, making the building the tallest rental residential tower in the city.
The tall residential tower stands at the southern edge of Grant Park and serves as a rental complex with hundreds of units that draw residents from across the city. The facade shows bundled vertical elements that recall the constructive tradition of Chicago and give the building a recognizable appearance.
The residential complex offers amenities such as fitness areas, spa, swimming pool, work zones, and outdoor spaces with direct views of the adjacent park. Visitors can observe the facade and surroundings of the tower from the southern part of the park.
The nine vertical sections end at staggered heights and create a profile that differs from most Chicago skyscrapers with continuous facades. This construction produces different views and outdoor areas on the upper floors for various apartments.
