Mashamoquet Brook State Park, State park and recreational area in Pomfret, United States.
Mashamoquet Brook State Park is a forested preserve with streams and natural rock outcrops like Table Rock and Indian Chair along the water. The landscape features deep gorges lined with hemlock trees that wind through the property.
The park began in 1918 when Sarah Fay donated her initial eleven acres of hemlock-filled valley to Connecticut. This early gift formed the foundation for what would grow into the state preserve.
The Wolf Den within the park marks the location where Israel Putnam eliminated Connecticut's final documented wolf in 1742, earning national historic recognition.
The park provides two separate campgrounds for different visitor needs. Wolf Den Campground features modern facilities including showers and running water for people staying overnight.
The stream's name comes from a Mohegan word pointing to excellent fishing conditions. The water holds populations of brook, brown, and rainbow trout that still draw fishers today.
