Brooklyn Tower, Supertall skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn, United States
The Brooklyn Tower is a 74-story, 1,035-foot (315 m) residential skyscraper by SHoP Architects, built 2018–2022 on a triangular block between DeKalb Avenue and Flatbush Avenue Extension. Its hexagonal shaft, echoing the bank rotunda below, carries closely spaced vertical fins in dark glass and bronze-toned metal, with stepped setbacks on each of its six sides ending in a crown. At its base stands the Dime Savings Bank Building, a 1906–1908 Classical Revival structure by Mowbray and Uffinger with a white Pentelic marble facade, colonnades, a diagonal portico on Albee Square and a marble dome.
The Dime Savings Bank Building, designed by Mowbray and Uffinger, was built in 1906–1908 and expanded by Halsey, McCormack and Helmer in 1931–1932. JDS Development Group bought the bank in 2014 and began the tower as an annex in 2018; the superstructure topped out in October 2021. After a loan default, Silverstein Properties took over the unsold condos and rentals in June 2024.
The tower takes its name from Brooklyn, the borough it anchors at 9 DeKalb Avenue. Its hexagonal plan echoes the six-sided rotunda of the Dime Savings Bank, which was designated a New York City landmark in 1994 and is being converted into retail space.
The residential entrance is on Fleet Street and the retail entrance on Flatbush Avenue Extension, with glass tower entrances on both sides leading into an atrium. The site fills a triangular block between Fleet Street, DeKalb Avenue and Flatbush Avenue Extension, facing the DeKalb Avenue subway station across the street.
The building is the first in Brooklyn to surpass 300 meters (984 feet) and towers above every other structure in the borough. Outside Manhattan, New York City has no comparable residential tower at this height.
