Brooklyner, 51-floor skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn, United States
The Brooklyner is a 51-story residential tower in Downtown Brooklyn, New York, clad in glass and metal. The apartments inside have large windows that face Manhattan and the surrounding parts of the city.
The tower was completed in 2010 and briefly held the title of Brooklyn's tallest building, surpassing the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower which had held that position for about 80 years. By 2013, another structure had taken over that title.
The Brooklyner towers over a part of Brooklyn that has changed quickly in recent years, drawing people who want to live close to Manhattan without actually being there. From street level, the building is a clear landmark in a neighborhood that feels noticeably different from the rest of Brooklyn.
The building is within walking distance of several subway stations, including DeKalb Avenue and Jay Street, which connect to Manhattan and the rest of Brooklyn. The surrounding streets have a good mix of shops and services for day-to-day needs.
Although the tower held Brooklyn's height record for only three years, it was the first building to break a record that had stood for about 80 years, ending the long dominance of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower. That shift marked the start of a wave of tall construction in the borough that has continued since.
