Brooklyn Municipal Building, Municipal office building in Downtown Brooklyn, United States
The Brooklyn Municipal Building is a classical office structure located where Joralemon and Court Streets meet in the downtown area. Inside, it houses several city departments that serve residents and businesses, including bureaus handling marriages, building permits, and environmental matters.
The structure was completed in 1924 and represents a classical approach to government buildings of that era. In 2021, it was renamed to honor a prominent figure who had strong connections to Brooklyn.
In March 2021, the building received its current name, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Municipal Building, honoring the Supreme Court Justice from Brooklyn.
The building is open to the public during business hours and offers various city services from one convenient location. It is easily accessible by public transportation and situated in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.
The Landmark Preservation Commission approved modifications in 2012 to enhance the first floors and permit additional commercial signage on the structure.
