Mountainaire Hotel Historic District

The Mountainaire Hotel Historic District comprises two identical four-story brick buildings with light masonry and stepped facades on Park Avenue. The structures feature horizontal bands of stone or terra-cotta trim typical of the Art Moderne movement.

A developer from Minnesota constructed these buildings in 1947 to create a hotel complex at this location. After about two decades serving as lodging, they were later converted to serve different purposes.

The buildings display a design style that is uncommon in Hot Springs and reflects the architectural tastes of the mid-twentieth century. Visitors can see the modern approach directly in the stepped facades and smooth brick surfaces that make the structures stand out.

The site is compact and easy to reach while walking along Park Avenue in Hot Springs. The facades are visible from the street, making it possible to see the buildings without needing interior access.

The project was originally envisioned as a larger complex that was never fully realized. Only two of the five planned buildings were constructed at this location, making it an incomplete testament to its era.
