Allatoona Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Bartow County, US.

The Allatoona Dam extends 281 meters across the Etowah River, forming a concrete barrier that creates a substantial reservoir for power generation and water management.

Construction of the dam commenced in 1946 following the Flood Control Acts, requiring the relocation of railway lines and flooding the former town of Etowah.

The dam's creation transformed the region's landscape, establishing Lake Allatoona as a central point for community gatherings and outdoor recreational activities.

The facility generates 85 megawatts of hydroelectric power while providing essential water supply to three counties: Bartow, Cherokee, and Cobb.

During the severe drought of the 1980s, the decreased water levels revealed submerged remnants of old roads, tree stumps, and house foundations beneath Lake Allatoona.
