Honey Creek School, historic one-room school building located in Benton Township, Monroe County, Indiana

Honey Creek School is a small one-room building constructed in 1921 in Benton Township, Indiana. It features wooden walls on a fieldstone foundation, a hipped roof with a front gable section, and a small belfry tower at the entrance, reflecting early 20th-century rural design.

The school was built in 1921 and operated for about 24 years before closing in 1945 as larger schools became available nearby. After standing empty for decades, it was restored in 1975 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The school served as a gathering place for farming families in the area. Children walked from nearby homes to learn together, making it a center of community life where education and local bonds grew.

The building sits in a quiet rural setting on Low Gap Road and is easy to walk around on foot. The peaceful countryside with trees and open fields makes it a serene spot to visit without busy roads or crowds nearby.

The building displays elements of the early 20th-century Craftsman movement in its design, with handcrafted details and natural materials reflecting the honest construction style of that era. These architectural touches are uncommon for a simple rural school, showing how much the community valued its construction.
