Salt Creek Wilderness is a nature reserve covering roughly 9,600 acres that combines Chihuahuan Desert scrublands with riparian areas along the Pecos River. The terrain includes open water zones, dense vegetation, and red rock formations spread across different sections.
The area was established as a protected reserve in 1970 by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and forms part of the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Protection was granted to preserve the diverse wildlife and natural habitats found in this region.
