Sentinel Rock State Park

Sentinel Rock State Park is a 356-acre protected area in Westmore that contains hiking trails leading to a massive glacial boulder. The terrain includes different habitat types with exposed bedrock formations visible throughout the region.

The land was formerly a farm and was donated to the State of Vermont in 1997, leading to the park's establishment in 2015. This conversion from private agricultural property to public conservation land enabled its current use for recreation and learning.

The boulder has served as a regional landmark for generations and now draws visitors who walk through the forest to reach it. Local residents recognize this place as a natural focal point that connects them to the surrounding landscape.

The park is open during daylight hours and accommodates hiking, educational visits, hunting, and trapping based on the season. Visitors should prepare for changing conditions and follow marked trails to explore the grounds safely.

The edges of the boulder still show visible drill marks from the 19th-century plug-and-feather stone extraction technique. These marks offer a rare glimpse into the industrial past and the handcrafted methods workers used to shape stone before modern machinery became common.
