Mount Appleton

Mount Appleton is a mountain summit in the Olympic Range of western Washington, distinguished by its double peak formation. The landscape transitions from dense forest at lower elevations to alpine meadows and rocky terrain near the top.

The mountain was named after Dr. Thomas Joseph Appleton, a physician who served as mayor of Port Angeles in the early 1900s. The surrounding region has been homeland to Pacific Northwest Native peoples for thousands of years.

The mountain stands within traditional Native American territories, where indigenous communities maintained connections to the land for generations.

Climbing this summit requires scrambling experience and proper gear, especially during snowy winter conditions. Starting from marked trails and checking local conditions before departing is essential for a safe visit.

The mountain's position creates a 914-meter elevation gain over just 2.4 kilometers, making it a notably steep geographical formation.
