Mount Storm King

Mount Storm King is a mountain summit in Olympic National Park that rises above dense forest with steep rock sections higher up. The route moves through changing landscapes, from shaded forest sections to open rocky areas with views over the surrounding mountains.

The mountain received its name in the 1890s during surveying expeditions because sudden weather changes occurred frequently at its peak. This naming choice reflects the location's notable tendency to experience rapid meteorological shifts.

Native American tribes of the Olympic Peninsula considered the mountain a significant marker for navigation and seasonal hunting patterns.

The trail to the summit requires proper hiking gear and plenty of water for the multi-hour journey. It is wise to wear good shoes and weather-resistant clothing since conditions can change quickly.

The final climb includes a rope-assisted section over an almost vertical rock face. This exposed rock section is a critical point where help and care are essential.
