Fairholme Campground, Lakeside campground in Clallam County, US
Fairholme Campground is a campground with 88 sites nestled within old-growth forest on the northern shore of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. The sites spread throughout the wooded area with many offering direct views of the water.
The campground was established after Olympic National Park was created in 1938 as a place for organized visits to the protected area. The project developed from a desire to give people safe access to wilderness without harming the surroundings.
The campground reflects local outdoor traditions where visitors follow established guidelines to protect the natural surroundings and wildlife. Communal fire rings and shared spaces bring together people who come to escape into the forest for extended stays.
The campground operates from April through September with reservations needed between May and September, available months ahead of your arrival. Booking early is wise since sites fill quickly during peak season.
Many visitors overlook that the lake often freezes in winter, giving the setting a completely different character during that quieter season. The snow-covered forest becomes easier to explore and local wildlife becomes more visible to those who brave the cold.
