Western State Hospital Historic District is a 19th-century medical complex in Bolivar featuring seven main buildings constructed in Classical Revival style. The grounds span 37 acres and include various supporting structures alongside the primary buildings.
The facility was founded in 1889 and initially received patients transferred from a Nashville asylum. The patient population grew rapidly in the following years, spurring construction of additional buildings.
