Eaton Hall

Eaton Hall, Academic building at Tufts University, Medford, United States

Eaton Hall is an academic building at Tufts University with red brick walls and white marble columns framing its facade. Four Corinthian columns support the prominent pediment at the main entrance, giving the structure classical proportions.

The building was completed in 1908 and originally served as the main library for Tufts University. Construction was funded by a major donation from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

The building contains a memorial wing with plaques dedicated to 102 Tufts students and alumni who died during World War II.

The building now houses departmental offices, classrooms, and a computer lab serving students and faculty. Visitors should keep in mind this is an active academic workspace where classes and meetings regularly take place.

The building was named after Reverend Charles H. Eaton, a minister who officiated Mrs. Carnegie's wedding in 1887. Mrs. Carnegie chose this honor for someone meaningful to her rather than attaching the family name to the structure.
