Packard Hall, University building in Medford, United States.
Packard Hall is a university building in Medford featuring Italianate design with ornate details, decorative corner quoins, and a distinctive half-hexagonal turret topped with neo-gothic trimmed windows. The facade displays fine craftsmanship through its embellishments and architectural proportions typical of the period in which it was constructed.
The structure was built in 1856 as Middle Hall and served as the second building on Tufts University's Walnut Hill campus. It housed the university library from 1885 until the completion of a new library facility, after which it took on its current name in recognition of a key early supporter.
The Department of Political Science occupies Packard Hall, contributing to the educational environment of Tufts University's main campus.
A renovation in 2008 added a four-story tower with an elevator and additional stairway, making the building accessible and comfortable for all visitors. The modern additions allow easier navigation through the building's different levels while maintaining the historic exterior appearance.
The building received its current name in 1908, honoring Sylvanus Packard, an early benefactor who supported the university's development.
