William Plankinton Mansion, 19th century stone mansion in Milwaukee, United States.
The Victorian mansion featured a marble facade with a lion head ornament and contained intricate woodwork throughout its interior spaces.
John Plankinton constructed this residence in 1876 as a wedding present for his son William Plankinton and Mary Ella Woods.
The mansion stood along Grand Avenue, where wealthy Milwaukee families established their residential properties during the late nineteenth century.
After its sale to Marquette University in 1918, the building served multiple functions including a hospital annex with 42 patient rooms.
The mansion's demolition in 1969 later influenced the creation of Milwaukee's Historic Preservation Commission to protect architectural landmarks.
