Angel in a Cage, Public sculpture in Menomonee Valley, United States.
Angel in a Cage is a 40-foot steel tower standing in Milwaukee's industrial district along Canal Street. The structure holds a suspended fiberglass angel figure centered within its metal framework.
The sculpture was created in 1983 after Richard Pflieger won a local competition for student sculptures. It became part of an effort to bring artistic works to the Menomonee Valley area.
The design blends industrial elements from Menomonee Valley with religious imagery found in Milwaukee's south side neighborhoods. This combination reflects the values and identity of the community that encounters this work daily.
The sculpture sits at 1915 West Canal Street, directly in front of Emmber Foods Incorporated. The location remains accessible throughout the year and can be viewed free from the street.
Two metal ladders inside the tower lean against each other, creating an additional geometric pattern within the structure. This hidden detail is difficult to notice from outside but adds another layer of meaning to the overall work.
