Oops, Missed, Steel and fiberglass sculpture in Menomonee Valley, Milwaukee, United States
Oops, Missed is a contemporary steel and fiberglass sculpture located in Menomonee Valley near the 16th Street viaduct. The work measures roughly 10 feet (3 meters) by 5 feet (1.5 meters) and can be viewed from multiple angles as viewers walk around it.
Bernard Peck, a local businessman, created this work in 1987 in collaboration with artists Joseph Mendla and Hilary Goldblatt. The sculpture emerged during a period of transformation for the valley as traditional industries began to decline.
The sculpture reflects the industrial past that once shaped Menomonee Valley, serving as a reminder of when factories and processing plants formed the backbone of this neighborhood.
The work sits at 1515 West Canal Street in an openly accessible area without barriers to entry. Visitors can view it during daylight hours from all sides and it works well for drop-in visits without advance planning.
Many who encounter the work notice what appear to be personal features of its creator Bernard Peck embedded in the form itself. This private dimension adds depth to what might otherwise be seen as simply public art.
