Al Zawra’a Gardens

Al Zawra'a Gardens is a large green space in central Baghdad with thousands of trees, flower beds, and walking paths throughout the grounds. The site also includes a zoo, an astronomical observatory dome, and a viewing tower for visitors to explore.

The gardens were founded in the early 1970s on the grounds of former military facilities. In the 1980s, a ceremonial square was added to the property.

The gardens serve as a gathering place for families and friends, especially on weekends when locals stroll through the flower beds and enjoy outdoor meals. The space reflects how Baghdad residents spend their leisure time with the natural surroundings.

The site is accessible with regular opening hours and multiple pathways to explore the entire grounds at your own pace. There are shaded areas and rest spots throughout for visitors who need to take breaks.

Visitors can observe the night sky from the astronomical observatory dome, an uncommon feature in an urban setting. The viewing tower offers sweeping views across the gardens and the city beyond.
