Genting Highlands is a mountain resort on Mount Ulu Kali at an elevation of 1800 meters, with hotels, entertainment facilities and shopping centers. The complex sits within rainforest that covers the surrounding peaks.
Malaysian entrepreneur Lim Goh Tong founded the resort in 1965 after recognizing the mountain's potential during a visit to Cameron Highlands. The construction of the access road through the jungle took four years.
The Chin Swee Caves Temple sits on a rocky hill, displaying traditional Taoist architecture and multiple prayer halls that reflect Malaysian Chinese religious practices.
The Awana SkyWay cable car connects the base station to the summit over a distance of 2.8 kilometers, crossing the mountainous terrain. The gondolas run regularly during daytime hours and offer views of the forest below the cabins.
Temperatures usually range between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, which is unusually cool for Malaysia. Visitors often wear jackets or sweaters while lowland cities experience tropical heat.
