Amber Court, Apartment building in Bentong, Malaysia.
Amber Court is a residential building in Bentong, Malaysia, arranged across several floors with apartments in different sizes. Common areas and parking spaces serve the residents and complete the facilities offered within the complex.
Amber Court was planned as the Resort Apartments of the SamaWorld theme park venture, developed by Giant Bay Resources and Samaworld. Land clearing began in February 1991, main construction around 1994, and the complex opened around 1996. After the 1997 Asian financial crisis, developer Villa Genting Development went into liquidation in the early 2000s, and owners formed ACORA to manage the building.
Red moss and algae on the facade gave the building a blood-red tint, which fed many ghost stories online; in 2017 Amber Court served as a filming location for the horror film Haunted Hotel, and in 2020 the Galileo programme devoted a segment to it.
The complex stands in the Genting Highlands of Pahang, on a remote site reached by an access road that was long in poor condition. Water supply disruptions recurred after the supplying infrastructure went into liquidation in 2004. A free shuttle to Genting Bus Terminal once served the building; three levels of car parks sit within the towers.
Red algae and moss on the damp tropical facade gave the building a neglected look; the blood-red colouring fed many ghost stories online, and the facade was repainted in 2012. In 2017 Amber Court served as a filming location for the horror film Haunted Hotel.
