Chiling waterfalls, Waterfall in Selangor, Malaysia
The Chiling Waterfalls are a multi-tiered cascade located inside a forest reserve in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, Malaysia. The water tumbles over rock ledges and settles into a series of natural pools connected by the river that runs through the valley.
The area around the Chiling Waterfalls was declared a protected sanctuary in the early 2000s, primarily to safeguard the native Mahseer fish. Managed access and visitor rules were introduced at that point to prevent damage to the river and surrounding forest.
The Chiling Waterfalls sit inside a fish sanctuary, and signs at the entrance make clear that fishing and loud activity are not allowed. This shapes how people move through the area, with most visitors staying quiet and keeping to the marked paths along the river.
Getting to the falls means crossing the river several times, so wear shoes that can get wet and clothes you do not mind soaking. The trail takes roughly 90 minutes each way, so plan for a half-day outing and bring water and snacks.
The pools beneath the falls are home to Mahseer fish that can grow quite large, and they are often visible just below the surface when the water is calm. Watching them from the rocks is one of the quieter pleasures of the visit that many people walk past without noticing.
