Berjaya Hills Resort, Mountain resort in Bentong, Malaysia
Berjaya Hills Resort is a highland property in Bentong, Malaysia, made up of several buildings spread across a forested hillside at around 820 meters above sea level. The grounds cover a large area and include accommodation, gardens, and themed sections designed in distinct architectural styles.
The resort was developed by the Berjaya Group in the early 2000s, bringing a new approach to tourism in the Malaysian highlands. Before its development, the area was largely forested and the hillside was not accessible to visitors in its current form.
The resort is divided into areas inspired by different parts of the world, and the contrast becomes clear as you walk from one section to another. The French village area features cobbled paths and facades that recall Alsace, while the Japanese section has a different layout and a quieter garden feel.
The resort is about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur along the Karak Highway, and the road leading up to the property winds through hilly terrain. Because of the elevation, temperatures are cooler than in the lowlands throughout the year, so a light layer is useful especially in the evening.
The Alsatian village within the grounds was built using architectural references from actual villages in the Alsace region of France, not just a generic European look. The botanical garden on the property takes advantage of the cooler highland conditions to grow plants that would not survive at lower altitudes in Malaysia.
