Genting Skyway

Genting Skyway is a gondola lift in Hulu Selangor, Malaysia, running through mountainous terrain and linking two elevations. The system consists of several towers and cabins that travel along a fixed route between a valley station and an upper arrival platform.

The gondola was built in the 1990s and put into service in February 1997 to improve access to the mountain region. At the time of its opening, it was considered the longest installation of its kind in Southeast Asia.

The ride offers a window into Malaysia's tropical mountain world and crosses valleys of dense rainforest up to a popular retreat area. Travelers experience the shift from lowland warmth to cooler highland air as part of the journey itself.

The ride takes about ten minutes and passes over several support towers while the cabin moves smoothly through the air. Those sensitive to height should prepare for the increasing distance from the ground.

The foundations of the support towers were anchored into rock using a special caisson method to bear strong vertical loads in the mountain landscape. This construction technique allows the entire system to remain secure even through steep terrain sections.
