Democratic Government Museum, Political history museum in Malacca, Malaysia.

The Democratic Government Museum is housed in a former building of the State Legislative Assembly of Malacca. It displays photographs and artifacts that document how Malaysian government and democracy have developed over time.

The foundation stone was laid on 13 August 1961 by Tun Haji Abdul Malek bin Yusof, Governor of Malacca, though the Malay Wikipedia gives 31 August 1961. The building served as the Malacca State Legislative Assembly, where the Speaker chaired sessions and the state budget was presented, until the Assembly moved to Ayer Keroh in February 2000.

The museum shows how Malaysia developed as a democracy and how government works in practice. You can see the importance of elections and constitutional rules in the country's daily life.

The museum stands on St. Paul's Hill, a short climb above the centre of Malacca; the walk up is on foot, so allow time for the slope. The former assembly chamber and its galleries are indoors, and the hilltop setting places it beside the ruins of St. Paul's Church and the Porta de Santiago.
