People's Museum, Cultural museum in Malacca City, Malaysia.
The People's Museum is located in the ground floor of a former Municipal Council building and is divided into three main sections covering sports, community topics, and UNESCO initiatives. The collection spans several floors of the complex and documents different aspects of Malaysian heritage in different locations.
The museum was established in 1992 as a center to document the development achievements of Melaka. It emerged from the effort to preserve the modern history and social progress of the region and make it accessible to future generations.
The museum displays traditions of various Malaysian communities through handcrafted objects and artistic works. Visitors can become familiar with local craft techniques like batik dyeing, which are shown practically in the exhibition areas.
The building is spread across multiple floors, allowing visitors to explore the different exhibitions gradually. Access to all areas is straightforward, and there is ample space to walk through and linger in each exhibition area.
In the outdoor area, visitors can see a rare aircraft from the first Royal Malayan Airforce and a 1965 Japanese-made locomotive. These historical vehicles come from different periods of Malaysian infrastructure development and are rarely gathered in one location.
