Beauty Museum, Museum of beauty standards in Malacca, Malaysia

The Beauty Museum is a specialty museum in Malacca located on the third floor of the People's Museum building. It displays tools, objects, and methods of body beautification from different regions around the world.

The building dates from 1960 and originally housed the Malacca Historical City Municipal Council; it is thought to stand on the ruins of a Dutch structure. The Beauty Museum opened there in 1996 on the top floor, and from September 2011 to August 2012 it was closed for modernisation.

The museum's displays cover practices recorded across cultures: skin tattooing, lip stretching with round discs, tooth filing, scarification, head moulding into oval shapes and foot binding. The Malay name is Muzium Kecantikan, and the collection sets these body modifications side by side as competing standards of beauty.

The visit is possible on most days during daytime hours, with admission being very affordable. The museum is centrally located and easy to reach on foot while exploring Malacca's historic streets.

The museum examines beauty practices that are rarely performed today, such as foot binding or lip stretching. These displays help visitors understand how dramatically global beauty standards have shifted over time.
