Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque, State mosque in Kuantan, Malaysia.
Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque is a large prayer building in Kuantan defined by four minarets and a central dome at its center. Its exterior walls are decorated with geometric patterns and finished in marble.
The building was completed in 1993 and replaced an earlier wooden structure from 1962 that had developed structural problems. The new construction was necessary because the original could no longer serve its purpose.
Inside, the walls display Islamic calligraphy and Quranic verses that form part of the daily spiritual experience of those who pray here. Visitors can observe these sacred texts displayed throughout the prayer halls and corridors.
It sits in Kuantan's business district on Jalan Mahkota and can hold up to 10,000 worshippers. Visitors should be aware that there are specific visiting hours for non-Muslims and dress codes apply.
Blue and white marble surfaces use colored glass windows to create light patterns inside, offering a special visual effect for those who enter. A tall tower reaching about 55 meters is a defining feature of the skyline.
