Kemaman Zoo & Recreation Park
Kemaman Zoo & Recreation Park is a 35-acre site on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia that combines a zoo, gardens, and water park in one place. The facility is home to 54 animal species including lions, tigers, elephants, and orangutans, along with garden areas filled with orchids, tropical plants, and herbs.
The zoo opened on August 11, 2009, and grew from the idea of the nearby Bukit Takal Recreational Park to showcase the beauty of beaches and villages in Kemaman. The facility was built to protect endangered animal and plant species and teach visitors about nature conservation.
The zoo bears the name Kemaman after the region where it sits and brings together animal care with education for visitors. The place shows how the community sees the importance of protecting wildlife by helping people learn about it.
The zoo is easily reached by car using Jalan Mak Chili-Ibok or Jalan Kerteh-Ibok roads, or by boat via the Bukit Kuang and Yak Yah rivers. A morning visit is best when animals are more active and the grounds feel less crowded.
The grounds are home to the largest natural firefly habitat in Terengganu state, letting visitors watch these glowing insects at night. This special attraction makes it a rare place in Malaysia to experience this phenomenon.
