Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque

This modern royal mosque in Kuala Terengganu features a single minaret and flat roof that blend contemporary design with traditional Malay architectural elements. The air-conditioned prayer hall can accommodate many worshippers and provides chairs for those who need support during prayers.

Construction began in 1981 when the Finance Minister laid the foundation stone, and the building was completed in 1984. Since then it has served as the main royal prayer house in Terengganu.

The minaret displays detailed calligraphy and carved designs created by local artisans from Besut, reflecting the connection between contemporary religious architecture and traditional craftsmanship.

The location is easy to reach and the building is air-conditioned, making it comfortable to visit regardless of the heat outside. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and respect prayer times, which determine when you can enter.

A royal mausoleum containing the tomb of the 15th Sultan of Terengganu stands beside the prayer hall, added in 1998. This combination of a working mosque with a royal burial place creates a unique space where worship and remembrance come together.
