Tun Perak Tower, Office skyscraper in Pudu, Malaysia
Tun Perak Tower is a 244 m office skyscraper in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, designed by Hijjas Kasturi Associates. Its plan interlocks two square-based blocks at one corner, each with a roof and lower base slanting opposite the other while the midsection stands perpendicular. The pale facade carries closely spaced vertical fins and a central band of dark bronze glass, crossed by two chevron bands above an open lattice base.
Construction of the Tun Perak Tower began in 1984 on Court Hill, on the site of a colonial-era Sessions Court building, and was completed in 1988. At 244 m it was the tallest building in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia until the Petronas Twin Towers rose in 1995. It was Maybank's headquarters until the bank moved to the nearby Merdeka 118, and it was renamed from Maybank Tower in 2026.
The tower's form draws on the upward-pointing sheathed kris, a traditional Malaysian dagger, so the two interlocking blocks and their tiered triangular entrance roofs read as a modern Malaysian building rather than a plain office slab. The Maybank Numismatic Museum inside holds the bank's collection of coins and notes.
The tower stands on Court Hill, reachable on foot north of Plaza Rakyat LRT station, which also connects with the Merdeka MRT station, or southwest of Masjid Jamek LRT station. A major bus hub sits across Jalan Tun Perak from the building.
The tower's outline is modelled on an upward-pointing sheathed kris, the traditional Malaysian dagger, with the two interlocking blocks forming the blade and hilt. Its look was copied, with altered height, for Jadyn's Tower in the video game SimCity 3000 Unlimited.
