Exchange Square, also called Bukit Kewangan, is the neoclassical headquarters of Bursa Malaysia on Jalan Raja Chulan. The building was designed with large columns, a symmetrical facade and classical detailing, and its interior holds electronic trading systems, conference facilities and communications technology. Construction ran from 1995 to 1997.
Construction started in 1995 and finished in 1997, marking an important moment in Malaysia's financial development. The project was part of a broader modernization of the financial district during that period.
The name Bukit Kewangan means "Financial Hill" in Malay, while Exchange Square is the English name used for the same complex on Jalan Raja Chulan. The neoclassical facade of columns and a symmetrical front was chosen to suggest stability for the institution inside, which runs securities trading, clearing and settlement for Malaysia's capital market.
The building sits directly next to the Masjid Jamek train station and is easy to reach. Buses also serve the area, connecting it to other parts of the city.
The complex was built as part of a government vision to strengthen Kuala Lumpur as a regional financial hub, and the surrounding area was one of the city's traditional financial centres before newer districts such as Tun Razak Exchange were planned.
