Panggung Bandaraya DBKL, Theater hall at Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Raja, Malaysia
Panggung Bandaraya DBKL is a performing arts hall located on Jalan Tun Perak across from Merdeka Square, combining a Moorish exterior with contemporary interiors. The venue holds more than 900 seats and features modern sound equipment for hosting concerts, theater productions, and dance performances.
Construction began in 1896 and was completed in 1904 under architect Arthur Benison Hubback, who also designed the adjacent City Hall. A major fire in 1992 destroyed the interior, leading to a complete restoration that added modern technology while keeping the historic exterior.
The building hosts local artists and dance groups who perform their work here regularly. The stage has become a place where Kuala Lumpur shows its creative side to audiences.
The hall is within walking distance northwest of Masjid Jamek LRT Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. The downtown location means you can reach it on foot from nearby transit stops or parking areas.
The original design came from Arthur Benison Hubback, a British architect who shaped several landmarks in Kuala Lumpur. His style still shows in the building's appearance today with features typical of early colonial-era architecture in Malaysia.
