Bukit Nanas is a 94-metre hill in central Kuala Lumpur whose summit carries the Kuala Lumpur Tower, while the KL Forest Eco Park covers its slopes. The reserve holds 9.3 hectares of original tropical rainforest, with jungle trails, a visitors centre and a forestry museum. The canopy of rounded crowns in many greens falls toward red-roofed houses at the foot, with skyscrapers beyond.

The reserve got its name in the 1860s when military forces planted pineapples around a fortification during a regional conflict. This historical connection to the city's early days has made the site an important surviving green space from that era.

The forest reserve serves the community as a green retreat within the city and demonstrates how nature conservation works in urban settings. Visitors can observe how the rainforest is layered and what role it plays in the local environment.

The forest reserve is open daily from 7 am to 6 pm and entry is free. There are three ways in: via the steps from the Federal Territory Forestry Department information centre on Jalan Raja Chulan, from the corner of the tourist bus parking area after reaching KL Tower by vehicle, or through the entrance on the left near the tower's main gate. The trails are uneven and the canopy provides shade.

The forest reserve is one of the last surviving natural woodland patches within the densely built city, offering an unexpected refuge for wildlife. Many visitors are surprised by how wild and untamed the place feels despite its central location.
