Sibu Heritage Centre, Cultural museum in Sibu, Malaysia
The Sibu Heritage Centre is a multi-story building dedicated to exhibits about the peoples of central Sarawak. The rooms display old objects and photographs that document daily life and craftsmanship across different communities.
The building was constructed in 1963 as Sibu's municipal offices and later underwent renovation work. It reopened to the public as a heritage centre in 2011.
The Centre displays handcrafted items and everyday objects from communities across central Sarawak, including Chinese, Iban, Malay, and other groups. You can see things people once used and learn how different populations have coexisted in this region.
The Centre is open on weekdays, but you will need to contact ahead if you want to visit on weekends. Calling in advance helps ensure you can enter without surprises and get the most from your visit.
The collection holds old Chinese porcelain and clay vessels donated by a local family. These pieces tell the story of early settlers and their ties to the region.
