Tree Nursery of Chimbote, Recreation area and plant nursery in Chimbote District, Peru.
The Tree Nursery of Chimbote is a green space with hundreds of tree species planted across its large grounds. The site includes walking areas, recreational facilities such as a swimming pool and paddle boats, plus zones for activities like quad biking and other games.
The nursery was established in 1945 as a joint initiative between Peru and a US health cooperation organization. This partnership shaped its early development as a reforestation and green space project for the surrounding region.
The name reflects its role as a tree-growing center for the region, and it functions as a gathering place where families spend weekends outdoors. The planted areas and walking paths have become part of how locals experience nature in an otherwise industrial part of the city.
The site is open from Tuesday to Sunday and spreads across a large, flat area with various activity zones scattered throughout. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk considerable distances, and bring water as much of the grounds are exposed to sun.
The grounds house a collection of animals including turtles, a penguin, monkeys, and an ocelot. The site also attracts migratory birds that use the trees and open spaces as a temporary habitat during their seasonal journeys.
